Tenue de Nîmes x Tellason Inside

Dutch denim store Tenue de Nîmes have teamed up with their San Francisco-based friends at Tellason for their second denim project. Tellason have produced an exclusive run of 24 hand-numbered denims made from a 13.75 oz selvedge White Oak – Cone denim. The pockets are lined with a vintage WWII cotton canvas tent fabric, made by a former Belgian mill. The top button is inspired by a coin from Nîmes that dates back to Roman times. The jeans symbolize the passion that Tellason and Tenue de Nîmes share for high quality denim and vintage icons. The jeans are available at the Tenue de Nîmes web-store.

Celebrating the shop’s 2 year anniversary, the guys of Tenue de Nîmes stuck to their home-base of the Netherlands for the theme of the sixth issue of their Journal. Check out the digital version above, or stop by the shop to get your paper edition.

Libertine-Libertine x Tenue de Nîmes Denim shirt Detail

Two Denimaniac favorites, Danish fashion label Libertine-Libertine and Dutch denim store Tenue de Nîmes have come together to produce a collaborative limited edition denim shirt based on the Libertine-Libertine Hobo. The design feature details like the check-lined collar and cuffs and the subtle white Tenue de Nîmes cross embroidery on the right front of each garment. Available through Tenue de Nîmes for €120,-.

The new, 5th Journal de Nîmes is out today and this time the theme revolves around British brands. The publication includes an interview with Nigel Cabourn at his Newcastle residence, a review of new British denim label Tender and a ‘very personal denim interview’ with Miles Johnson, head designer of the Levi’s XX department among other stories. This July, the American work wear shoes brand Red Wing Shoes is opening its first Dutch store in Amsterdam, in one of its famous “Nine streets”. Following in Berlin’s footprints this store will exclusively sell leather shoes and accessories.

Red Wing Shoes has been an authority in work wear shoes since 1905. Their leather boots are universally known for their indestructible quality. The brand uses its own leather, and both this raw material and the shoes themselves are still manufactured in the town of Red Wing, on the shores of the Mississippi river. Red Wing made a cross-over to lifestyle a few decades ago and has since become a staple in both the European and Japanese street scenes.

The collection of the store will consist of a wide assortment of Red Wing shoes, complemented by shoe maintenance items, belts, gloves and other accessories. The brands that represent this part of the collection include American Optical, Duluth Pack, Heritage Leather Company, Royal Republiq, Tanner Goods and The Hill-Side.

The store is a joint initiative between Red Wing Shoes and Tenue de Nîmes in Amsterdam.

Tenue de Nîmes blog refers us to the K-1 chino collection by Dockers: “The second in the Dockers K-1 – Made in San Francisco – series pays homage to the US soldiers serving in the South Pacific, its islands and the Far East during WWII. This selvage chino is a regular straight cut fit in a Cramerton Heavy Twill finish and the last in the brands limited edition range. It is significant in its design detailing; one back button pocket, strengthened belt loops – for added protection when under fire, zinc bronze metal button fly fastening and heavy duty plain plastic button flies.” Read more here.

Constantly innovating and looking to bring the best for their customers, our Dutch friends from ‘Best Denim Shop’ Tenue de Nîmes have joined forces with San Francisco based denim label Tellason to produce an exclusive run of 24 hand-numbered pairs of jeans made from the legendary selvedge -White Oak- Cone denim. The leather patch, made by Tanner goods in Portland as always, shows the Tellason logo connected to the Tenue de Nîmes cross to symbolize the shared passion for high quality and well-crafted denim. The limited edition jeans are available for €199,90 at the shop in Amsterdam.

Tenue de Nîmes’ new Journal de Nimes Nº4 was officially launched this week: “We decided to put our spotlights on France for this issue because the southern European country has always been a great source of inspiration for all of our concepts and activities. In this fourth release we publish our favorite French Treasures, such as diptyque and Ladurée vs. Nike. It also features another hand-drawn city map so with that in your pocket, you will not miss a single hot spot in the French capital. On top of this, our fourth Journal de Nîmes edition also contains the second part of Anneke Beerkens’ Masters research in youth culture and group dynamics in the underground Tokyo fashion scene, and we take an in-depth look at the history of the American shoe brand Red Wing”. We’d like to congratulate our friends from one of our favorite and a ‘Best Denim Shops’ – Tenue de Nîmes. Not the ones to rest on their laurels, while celebrating their shops first birthday, those busy bees have launched their Journal de Nîmes Nº3, dedicated to the country synonymous with jeans in their purest form – Japan. Inside the unique publication you’ll find a brand report about a true denim icon, Japan Blue, and their private label Momotaro; a section on great local finds, Japanese Treasures, as well as an illustrated travel map to Tokyo, and oh, so much more. “History, tradition, expertise, hand finishing and a personal interpretation of the classic are all necessary attributes of a good tailor. Conceptual jeans-making deals with exactly the same principles and skills.” Says Philip Goss, founder of denim label Ijin Material, in a recent interview he gave to the Tenue de Nîmes journal.

No doubt he knows what he’s talking about. This denim connoisseur/innovator made it his life mission to take one of the most common products of our time, dig back to its roots, and use all that knowledge and expertise to re-invent it.

He founded Ijin Material in 2003, while being creative director of Evisu:” I wanted to independently finance a new left field product and purposely re-interpret traditional denim, with the clear intention of presenting the archetypal indigo item in alternative way, whilst remaining faithful to handmade assembly.”

The individualism of Ijin Material is alert on the trademark “half-man” logo, which symbolizes the symmetrical folding techniques inherent to the way Ijin Irregular Indigo products are actually cut. The definition of Ijin (a vintage Japanese word once used to define somebody as a stranger) well describes this independent artisanal denim label philosophy.

What elements make a denim shop being one of the best? Is it their selection of brands? Is it the décor? Maybe it’s the atmosphere, or the passion of the owners? Well, why not all of the above? In todays over populated marketplace we need to segregate the best from the rest!

The first post in our global survey begins in Amsterdam, where two denim aficionados Menno van Meurs and René Strolenberg launched their shop ‘Tenue de Nîmes‘ in November last year.

Divided into two sections – in the ‘old’ part of the store you’ll find denim brands like: Levi’s Red, Lee jeans, Denim Demon, IJIN Material, Momotaro jeans, Nudie Jeans and G-star. In the ‘new’ part Tenue de Nîmes presents a blend of contemporary fashion for men and women, with brands like: Whyszeck, Cheap Monday, Velour and the handmade Tenue de Nîmes private label.

Add to all that shoes, books, accessories, vintage design and carefully planned surroundings and you get one of the best (denim shops).
