Named after the truck which carried the coal and water to power the locomotive, newly established workwear/denim brand TENDER Co. is looking back to the days of the Great British Steam Age for inspiration. With its roots in antique workwear and machinery, Tender aims to build a solid and authentic product, modern yet constructed using tried and true methods, one that its new owners will enjoy wearing and respect its provenance.

Following this guideline, Tender’s jeans are cut and sewn in England from unsanforized 16oz Japanese selvage denim, but rather than leaving it at that, the finished jeans are then washed and individually dip dyed, by hand, several times, in natural vegetable indigo. Garment –dying indigo is a painstaking process, taking up to a day to dye each piece, however the reward is a richness, depth, and variety of color which simply cannot be achieved in any other way.

Tender’s commitment to detail and research doesn’t stop at their denim. For A/W 2010 Tender is collaborating with Czech artist and designer Dorrit Dekk to produce their illustrated T-shirts. The series of five illustrations to Jorge Luis Borges’ Book of Imaginary Beings (1967) were drawn particularly for Tender, in bamboo pen and ink, colored with brush and ink, and watercolor, enhancing the brand’s vintage, artisanal character.

Tender’s launch line consists of a pair of jeans, a blanket-lined rail workers jacket, printed T-shirts and beautifully constructed belts of 1/4″ thick leather. To find out more visit their website.

Under the creative direction and design of David Mullen (founder of Save Khaki), classic American button-down shirt brand BD Baggies unveils a collection that has been completely modernized in terms of concept, style and product without leaving its heritage behind. The BD baggies project returns to the American origins of the brand for the upcoming spring season, and continues with its new project of “fine American basic”. The collection is noteworthy for its ever-lighter weights, particularly in cotton, linen and poplin. The big novelty is in the large range of check designs that go from baby check to madras, linking it to the very soft garment-dyed line and to classic men’s-shirt designs. The new line of garment-dyed jersey and cotton-fleece in 16 different colours is an absolutely new departure. Costumes in nylon and oxford and scarves in piece-dyed jersey are just some of the really interesting accessories created with that special BD feel. The BD collection is designed in the USA, and produced from 100% pre-laundered cloth which has a lived-in look and an unmistakable appeal. “A shirt wearable naturally as a tee”. After its initial success in Europe, S/S 10 will see its launch in the U.S.A. and Japan.

Juxtaposing the classic with the irreverent, the rural with the urban, and the gritty with the grand, Rogues Gallery‘s authenticity is seen and felt in every design, giving each piece a life and story of its own. The Maine based brand collections consist of clothing, accessories and jewelry for men. Stand out pieces include blazers, hoodies, striped sweaters, camp boots, and handcrafted messenger bags fashioned out of technical vinyl. Ksubi is an Australian fashion label, co-founded (2000) and directed by Sydney-based surfers/designers Dan Single and George Gorrow. Inspired by art, the street and music, Ksubi strives to present a unique concept each season and the label’s fashion shows are notorious for their attention-grabbing antics, such as releasing 200 live rats on stage or pushing models overboard into the Sydney Harbor. While themes continually vary and the label doesn’t necessarily follow trends, a common thread in Ksubi’s urban-chic offerings is that they are always fun and full of irreverent attitude.

LnA is a Californian label set on creating the perfect tee. Although picking through their collection of basics is highly recommended, their most attention-grabbing creation is a product of their collaboration with Music innovator Invisible DJ: The Music Tee. a T- shirt that is creatively designed to contain “album art” on the front, and a track list on the back.
