The Seil Marschall Carry-All

We’re starting to get ourselves into an autumnal mood (although it’s scorching hot outside) and this tote bag by Seil Marschall is a perfect match. Featuring neutral colors and understated style aplenty, this masculine tote bag is handmade in Germany from 100% hemp with vegetable tanned leather detail, wood felt padded straps and finished with copper and brass rivets at all stress points. We love oki-ni for being one of the best web-shops for men’s fashion, but we love even more what these Brit lads put out on display without a price tag on it.

oki-ni’s archive features are designed to offer a chance to explore labels and designer a little further than just their current collections; an opportunity to find out more about their history in product. Their latest addition to the archive page has gone live this week – but this time with a slight twist. Designer Nigel Cabourn is renowned for his meticulously researched reproduction pieces, often produced with remnants of vintage fabrics and finished with dead stock buttons and details.

Nigel Cabourn’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection ‘Burma’ is inspired by the contents of Nigel’s father’s army handbook. He used this as a diary during his time in India and Burma between 1942 and 1945. The photographs his Father J.E.W. Cabourn took on his box brownie camera and the clothing that he wore form the basis of the collection and is a tribute to him and his companions.

One of the stand-out pieces from the master-craftsman’s authentic collection is the ‘Edgar Indian Drill’ holdall. Made from dead stock 1942 British army Indian khaki Drill cotton (an authentic WWII fabric) and premium tan leather trim, this bag has one large internal compartment, it fastens with a heavy duty khaki zip and has both carry handles and a long shoulder strap. This time on RADAR we turn our attention to the rare and outstanding One Jean. Ex-Evisu and Levi’s designer Mark Westmoreland has produced a jean for all of us denim heads. A combination of vintage features from Levi’s, Lee, Boss of the Road, Stronghold and Wrangler; The One denim jean was created over a year ago – the end product of a prototype that took Westmoreland four years to produce, in conjunction with the Shiotoni brothers of Japan. The One brand was created to fulfill a simple, practical need to produce an exemplary jean – irrespective of label – that pools the collective knowledge of jean makers worldwide. This is denim’s greatest hits united in one pair of trousers.

The US cotton used to produce the One jean is dyed and woven near Hiroshima at a family run mill. This 14oz denim is loop dyed and comes in its unsanforized loom state. An exclusive 100 pairs of ‘One’ jeans will only be available from five retailers worldwide. Find out more here.

Let’s begin with the gorgeous ‘Voyager’ lace up boots by Japan’s Nonnative. These rugged beauties are crafted in aged rich brown suede with a thick heavy rubber sole. The boots fasten with 8 eyelets and a dark brown waxed lace, the tongue is contrasting brown leather and there’s a strong pull tag at the back of the heel. Handmade in Japan from Italian cow leather these are made up to last at least as long as you do, which is comforting, considering their hefty price of $1470. Get them here.

The massive khaki coated canvas duffle bag feature soft cotton canvas handles and adjustable shoulder strap. One of the occupational hazards for bloggers dealing with future trends and products is that sometimes you get hung up on something that will only be released next season or later, while you want it NOW. My own difficulty in delaying satisfaction arose when I first saw Acne’s S/S 2010 collection – those trainers the Swedish brand had conjured for the next Spring/Summer season immediately hit my wants and desires checklist. But as it now happens maybe I won’t have to wait anymore… Well, to be accurate Acne’s trainers won’t be available for a while, but my favorite online shop oki-ni has just received a cool selection of New Balance shoes that provide a nice cure for my condition. Originally trail running shoes first released in 1979, the New Balance U455 has been reinvented as a lightweight lifestyle shoe, leaving me with a new problem – which colorway to pick?

As I told you before, my shoe fetish knows no satisfaction. I try to tame it, but as the song say: “too much of anything is never enough”, and you must admit that a question of need is a question of taste. I saw these Shofolk harry low ankle boots on oki-ni and I asked myself “what have I done to deserve this?” With their rich coffee colored suede and contrasting white rubber sole and laces – it’s a sin! But look at my hopes, look at my dreams – I never thought I was so flamboyant. So “don’t worry” I said to the guy who pays my rent, “I won’t though I could“, ’cause I know – left to my own devices, I probably would… and now the question is “how am I gonna get through?” They are always on my mind.
