Nudie Jeans Spring/Summer 2011 Denim Shirts

Worn-in workwear with its abrasions and different shades of blue inspires the shirt collection of Nudie Jeans for spring summer 2011. The Swedish denim label wants to pass on the feeling and beautiful patina of worn and washed dungarees to their shirts. The range goes from dry, dark indigo selvage denim to worn and washed out.

Brigade Fall 2010 Lookbook

Brigade, the Ohio based independent retailers, are joining the increasing number of stores creating lookbooks, based on a selection and styling of their own. Bringing together pieces from G-Star, Nice Collective, Nudie Jeans and other well established brands, Brigade put forward casual yet stylish fall looks, with clear military inspirations. As we promised earlier, here’s a look at Nudie’s Injection Collection for fall 2010. BLACK ON BLUE is the orange thread binding this capsule collection together. Knits and jerseys are made with double dye or spray on top of indigo dying. Shirts follow the same principle – they have been stone washed and slightly scraped to bring out the blue in great contrasts.

All accessories are made in black-coated denim that will look superb when worn in. The weekend bag is back and it has a new travel companion, a stylish toiletry in denim and leather. The slippers are made in Sweden by Docksta, a company of distinguished heritage.

The jeans collection offer seven different fits and five new washes. The denims chosen are very dark blue, almost black. The contrasts of the scrapings and abrasions give a feeling of depth. It’s all about different surfaces, from rough heavy twill to smooth satin.

Lately we’ve been bombarded with news and innovations from Nudie Jeans. Those busy Swedes seem to never rest, constantly conjuring up the next wash, treatment or fit.

The inspiration for the S/S 10 Injection capsule collection is the color white. A Nudie Jeans kind of white. A white coating that brings to mind the flaking paint on garden furniture in a lilac bower. The kind of pale indigo bleached by the sun until it is almost white with only a notion of blue. Different shades of grey and indigo have been added to balance the color card.

The denim side offers new developments made exclusively for Nudie Jeans Co. For example a reversed denim with most of the indigo on the inside and a fabric with white coating. They will both give interesting inverted effects when worn in.

On the top side Nudie offers tees, shirts, sweatshirts and a denim jacket bleached down to white. All the tees are made in organic cotton and prints are made with inspiration from the Nudie Jeans philosophy.

We’ve already given you a preview look and the story behind Nudie Jeans’ F/W 10 collection, and now it’s time to turn to the lookbook which allows us to sample the full collection, including pieces from the Dry Selvage and Selvage Lab lines. In case you need a reminder, and to add a little insight – Nudie Jeans is based in Goteborg, situated on the Swedish west coast. Photo shoots take place in and around the city starring friends rather than professional models.

The melancholy feeling of Nudie’s S/S collection lingers on to the F/W 10 one. The jeans collection offers a wide spectrum of unwashed and washed denim. It features fabrics with indigo coating on black or brown weft, black coating on indigo blue weft, worn grey shades, and yellow or brown tinting. Names like Night Thunder, Deep Murky and Black Tint suggest that the trend wash wise is dark. The descriptions of the washes are pure poetry; a honey smoked weft with a grey tint or a dark minded indigo with silent abrasions and thunder light scrapings. Besides these dark minded washes, the range also offers light and mid blue shades with wash effects like clouds passing in the sky.

The colors for the tops are quite somber: grey, brown and blue with happy appearances of turquoise and a fantastic red orange. The tees offer several different qualities from heavy, brushed almost like flannel to the lightest of jersey. Each tee has its own print. Old vintage patterns and colours inspire Nudie’s knitted sweaters. Nudie continue to make their own shirt fabrics and checks, and as far as possible they are made in organic cotton. The result is a wide range containing checked fabrics, printed flannels, canvas, and twill, brushed or clean. The denim jacket is a key item and just like the jeans they come in different fits and washes. To complete it, the collection also contains smart accessories like wallets and cardholders made in genuine leather that will age beautifully and bags in dry selvage denim.

Nudie‘s inspiration for spring/summer 2010 is found in a feeling – the Swedish melancholy. They found it in the work of photographer Sune Jonsson, in his book …and time becomes a wondrous thing. His photographs give a strong feeling of the loneliness, the simple and poor life in rural Sweden during the 50s and 60s. It’s a life where farmers and workers used their jeans, shirts and overalls in their everyday life. People that only dressed up for Sunday church. Through Jonsson’s camera we are invited to their homes. We get a glimpse of their lives, their hopes of a new future and their dreams of the past. The collection offers the striped worker shirts, the Sunday outfit with wool jacket and waistcoat on top of an off white striped shirt. The cap and the hat and the grandpa shirts, all of them tell the tale of melancholy working history. A history that is more about picking potatoes, rather than digging for gold.

In 2010 Nudie will start monitoring their biggest suppliers. Fair Wear Foundation verifies that Nudie Jeans implements the Code of Labor Practices in the supply chain.

The guys at Nudie Jeans have created three new fits for S/S 09: Easy Emil, Big Bengt and Fast Freddy have all a relaxed fit, which is more suitable for the summer season than those skinny/clingy ones. All fits also available in organic fabrics – if you insist!
