Noir Basic Fall Winter 2010

French label Noir Basic produces refined and timeless leatherwear from materials sourced from artisanal tanneries in the heart of Paris. Founded in 2008 by three creatives, the label’s garments are influenced by vintage styles and American basics with a Japanese-like attention to details. Here’s a look at Noir Basic’s fall winter 2010 lookbook entitled “Cold Wave”.

Norse Projects x Lavenham Jacket

Denmark’s Norse Projects are teaming up with British originators of the quilted jacket, Lavenham Jackets, to produce 4 select items available from Norse Projects early November. The ever popular silhouette of the Lavenham Jacket received the Scandinavian treatment with functional natures and twists added to the jackets and vest as well as some subtle trim and pocketing details giving each garment that Norse stamp of approval.

Established in Jackson, Wyoming in the swinging 60′s and stood out from the many burgeoning brands, Rocky Mountain Featherbed is a dead honest, traditional outerwear brand with a hint of luxury. In particular, the brand became known for their cold weather vest with leather yoke. As the world began to turn a bit quicker through the 70′s and 80′s Rocky Mountain Featherbed slipped quietly under the radar until 2005 when a Japanese vintage collector demanded we all pay attention to it once again. Since then it has been retracing its steps and getting back in touch with its heritage. Now available from Manchester-based retailer Oi Polloi.

Lot78 Men's Autumn/Winter 2010

Lot78 is a luxury outerwear company who manufacture in the Veneto region of Italy. Launched in 2008, the brand was created by entrepreneur Ollie Amhurst, whose vision was to create a jacket neutral in design, perfect in fit and unbeatable in quality at an attainable price-point. Mixing urban life with the rustic life in the woods and surfing in the Atlantic, WOOLRICH John Rich & Bros’ spring/summer 2010 collection can be summed up in three themes: City Surf, Maine Maritime and “Glamping”. City Surf mixes surfing-inspired clothes with a more urban feel, and thus giving us plaid surfing shorts and rolled up carpenter shorts. Maine Maritime: A trend inspired by the coast of Maine blending fishing and boating into classic nautical themes with a contemporary twist. “Glamping” is a new word that comes from the combination of “glamorous” and “camping” and the new outdoor trend in which the traditional American camping style is reinterpreted in a fashionable way. As a result, the clothes combine sophisticated luxury with the practical functions that you expect from Woolrich.

The varsity jacket is a well established classic. We can all agree on that, but somehow it seems to me it’s particularly right for right now. That’s the way it goes with trends – it doesn’t have to be new to be in mode– it only needs a fresh perspective. Now, as it is with any trend, things come in many shapes and sizes (some are rad, some just bad); here are two of my favorite examples, each on an opposite side of the scale.

The first (above), aka the minimalist, by Japanese brand Over The Stripes (available from oki-ni), is a reinterpretation of the classic with a modern, silky twist. The second (top), representing the maximalist creed, is by NY based Streetwear label Supreme. Featuring 24 oz. melton wool body with leather arms and plenty of patches – it’s a classic gone rogue, but who doesn’t love a rebel? So, more or less – anyway you win!

Juxtaposing the classic with the irreverent, the rural with the urban, and the gritty with the grand, Rogues Gallery‘s authenticity is seen and felt in every design, giving each piece a life and story of its own. The Maine based brand collections consist of clothing, accessories and jewelry for men. Stand out pieces include blazers, hoodies, striped sweaters, camp boots, and handcrafted messenger bags fashioned out of technical vinyl. The collection is also known for its ever-changing assortment of t-shirts that feature original artwork (think eagles, buffalos, Indian heads, flags, anchors – as fit for a proud Americana brand ). With Denim jackets big come-back to the style savvy man’s wardrobe and with the cold season knocking on the door, here’s a selection of some of the best looking denim outerwear out there, all by denim aficionados Sugar Cane and Co.

With their fascination with vintage ware and americana wear you can trust the Japanese to produce some of the best workwear inspired clothing and accessories. Good examples for the fruits of this obsession are the products of Japanese brand FIL ‘EM ALLS (shown above and after the jump). I can’t tell you much about ‘em because unfortunately I don’t speak Japanese, but I’m sure you’ll be as impressed as I was with their apparent attention to detail and cool branding. Enjoy y’alls!

I have been a long time fan of  Tyler Brule since his Wallpaper* days. With his new (and brilliant!)  magazine ‘MONOCLE’ he took things one step further and created the Monocle Shop which sells his design collaborations with the likes of Porter, Comme des Garçons, Orlebar Brown and Valextra.

For this spring Monocle has also teamed up with Woolrich Woolen Mills to create a limited-edition run of the perfect lightweight men’s jacket. Daiki Suzuki, creative director of Woolrich Woolen Mills, has designed the unstructured jacket exclusively for Monocle, with 55 available in navy and 55 in olive. The 100 per cent ripstop cotton garment, made in the US, features a pop-up collar, external and internal pocket details and a purposeful, utilitarian design.

The Monocle x Woolrich Woolen Mills blazer will be available from May online at monocle.com and through Monocle’s two shops in London and Los Angeles.
