Bread&Butter Berlin gave the backdrop to LA-based denim brand GUESS jeans’ first fashion week catwalk show, where the jeans-giant debuted its Fall Winter 2011 collection. The coming Fall season brings a return “Back to the Roots” of GUESS. Iconic styles return from the archives with key, vintage pieces in updated volumes and cuts. Deep indigo and authentic washes set the tone for the collection themes: “Traveler”, “Railroad Diaries” and “Northern Passages”.

I thought long and hard how to describe Agave’s ss11 men’s collection to you. Usually in this case the images provided in the post are self-explanatory, but Agave’s presentation is, how to say, a bit lacking. And it’s ironic, because their garments are quite the opposite – made out of the best materials out there employing sophisticated treatments and washes, finally hand finished to perfection. Agave has a no bustle attitude that reads well into their product look and feel. Design is toned down and you need to take a good look to see the beauty within – you’ll find it in the little details. Trend seekers should look elsewhere…

Brand new KLAY was launched in 2010 by the French Collectif Saint Sauveur, it is definetley not big man clothes, more like for tall individuals. Their modern, raw and authentic silhouettes and denim really caught our eye, all fabricated and hand made in Japan. KLAY’s pieces can be found at shops like Guild (USA), Journal Standard (Japan) and L’ECLAIREUR (Paris).

Tenue de Nîmes x Tellason Inside

Dutch denim store Tenue de Nîmes have teamed up with their San Francisco-based friends at Tellason for their second denim project. Tellason have produced an exclusive run of 24 hand-numbered denims made from a 13.75 oz selvedge White Oak – Cone denim. The pockets are lined with a vintage WWII cotton canvas tent fabric, made by a former Belgian mill. The top button is inspired by a coin from Nîmes that dates back to Roman times. The jeans symbolize the passion that Tellason and Tenue de Nîmes share for high quality denim and vintage icons. The jeans are available at the Tenue de Nîmes web-store.

Yeah… this one took us some time, but it’s finally here. Surprisingly enough, New York’s fashion week menswear presentations were dull with denim compared to those of Milan and Paris. Why the surprise? Well, Americana is the driving force and theme of many a denim brand these days, so we thought America’s fashion designers will catch up with the trend. That said, we still got some pretty cool denim pieces from the expected denim aficionados like Gant, Rag & Bone and Robert Geller. So without further ado here’s our round up of all denim looks from New York’s spring/summer 2011 fashion week.

Based in Amsterdam, Levi’s XX is the relatively new premium clothing label of iconic denim brand Levi’s. Sportswear International talked to Maurizio Donadi, head of the Levi’s XX division, about how Levi’s Vintage Clothing is becoming more and more global and about Levi’s XX new sub-division Made & Crafted.

Please tell us the difference between LVC and Made & Crafted.

As a kind of nickname, LVC is workwear and Made & Crafted is church wear. Clean outfits that you wear on a Sunday to be with your family. If LVC is about the rigid and unwashed interpretation of workwear, Made & Crafted is about elegance and innovative casualwear which Levi’s has never done before. The trend was always to look at the history and reproduce and reproduce. Levi’s Made & Crafted has a new twist to it. It’s almost luxury in the arena of jeanswear.

Can you tell us more about LVC and the new Levi’s XX division?

Although LVC was born in 1999 it was never global. It was a much smaller selection of products and was distributed in different ways in Europe, Japan or the US. There was no consistency. There was a desire for that kind of product but it was never fully developed. So in 2009 Levi’s decided to open a new division called XX which is nothing more than a unit that takes care of and develops the top of the pyramid of Levis brands: LVC and Made & Crafted. They are now both developed globally. It’s one range for the entire world – one voice, one language, one religion. Our design team is made up of scientists not fashion designers. We look at fabrics and washes with a microscope. Half of this store represents the biggest selection of made in the U.S. products anywhere in the world. 90% of what we make is made in LA.
