Cheap Monday SS11 Runway @ Stockholm Fashion Week

Cheap Monday’s designers Örjan Andersson & Ann-Sofie Back on their ss11 collection shown at Stockholm fashion week: “This time we wanted to try out a different aesthetic: sparkling, extrovert and shameless. For inspiration we looked at Latin denim fashions, Italian diamanté and LA celebrity taste. To get a contemporary feel in the collection we have also worked with a cleaner, more fabric focused and minimalistic look. A combination of the exaggerated and the minimalistic creates the balance for S/S 2011.”

Cheap Monday Autumn/winter 2010

Sweden’s skinny jeans champion, Cheap Monday, present their autumn/winter, somewhat shady, catalogue: “The AW 2010 collection gives an apocalyptic impression but with a sense of hope for the future; holes are mended and scarring is used as decoration. Razorblade slashes are repaired on both denim and jersey; patches are used together with spray paint and coatings in rough detailing. A rawness and nomadicity referring to futurism and punk suggests a DIY aesthetic.” Take a look.

An informative look at Cheap Monday‘s behind-the-scenes.

ANTI SWEDEN is the brainchild of Norwegian based design agency ANTI. They recently launched their first unisex jeans, remarkable for its graphic details. The same dark and disturbing graphic attitude can also be seen in the attention-grabbing images exhibiting the brand identity. Here’s a short Q&A with them devils:

How and why did you start Anti Sweden?

We started Anti Sweden as a tribute to the Norwegian Black Metal Scene, and to create a brand that challenged our neighbors in Sweden´s domination of Scandinavian jeans. Using our skills as designers and having worked with apparel brands before, we wanted to create something different than the normal apparel brands.

What’s in the name?

The name was chosen because it is defining us as an anti established brand and a tongue in cheek towards the Swedish lifestyle brands known from Sweden as Acne and Cheap Monday.

Tell us about the collection

We do limited editions, not regular apparel collections, we have one unisex model called 666 where we have worked together with San Diego based illustrator Justin Bartlett, we are coming up with a girl’s model and a t-shirt collection and also looking into some jewelry. We are also currently working with artists to do our next limited edition; it will all be inspired by black metal culture in a fashion context.

What lies in the future for Anti Sweden?

To do exclusive co-works with people who are inspired by the aesthetics of darkness. To produce limited editions that allows us to keep our signature and don´t adapt to the mainstream culture.

What makes you different from other jeans brands?

All the above, we have a strong history founded on the cult scene originated from Norway. If jeans are to be rebellious again we will make it happen

Cheap Monday‘s S/S 2010 picks up where its A/W 09 collection left off, and is set on taking the concept to the edge. Ripped and torn, patched and bleach stained, cheap Monday’s jeans went through hell to get to the catwalk. It didn’t stop at the bottoms though, their tops received the same treatment –Well, I guess that’s the way it’s done in the world of grunge. FYI – this D.I.Y collection is not for the faint of heart!

What elements make a denim shop being one of the best? Is it their selection of brands? Is it the décor? Maybe it’s the atmosphere, or the passion of the owners? Well, why not all of the above? In todays over populated marketplace we need to segregate the best from the rest!

The first post in our global survey begins in Amsterdam, where two denim aficionados Menno van Meurs and René Strolenberg launched their shop ‘Tenue de Nîmes‘ in November last year.

Divided into two sections – in the ‘old’ part of the store you’ll find denim brands like: Levi’s Red, Lee jeans, Denim Demon, IJIN Material, Momotaro jeans, Nudie Jeans and G-star. In the ‘new’ part Tenue de Nîmes presents a blend of contemporary fashion for men and women, with brands like: Whyszeck, Cheap Monday, Velour and the handmade Tenue de Nîmes private label.

Add to all that shoes, books, accessories, vintage design and carefully planned surroundings and you get one of the best (denim shops).
