Nigel Cabourn’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection ‘Burma’ is inspired by the contents of Nigel’s father’s army handbook. He used this as a diary during his time in India and Burma between 1942 and 1945. The photographs his Father J.E.W. Cabourn took on his box brownie camera and the clothing that he wore form the basis of the collection and is a tribute to him and his companions.

One of the stand-out pieces from the master-craftsman’s authentic collection is the ‘Edgar Indian Drill’ holdall. Made from dead stock 1942 British army Indian khaki Drill cotton (an authentic WWII fabric) and premium tan leather trim, this bag has one large internal compartment, it fastens with a heavy duty khaki zip and has both carry handles and a long shoulder strap. This lean and mean duffel bag was created for the urban warrior in all of us by New York based creative collective Nom De Guerre. The massive khaki coated canvas duffle bag feature soft cotton canvas handles and adjustable shoulder strap. One of my top favorite picks from the new A/W collection is this leather holdall bag. This weekend bag by French clothier Atelier LaDurance is made from dry Japanese milled denim, 100% saddle leather handle and detailing, and ALD Signature ‘Vichy’ check cotton lining. Besides its cool features (like the jean pocket) it shows the perfect blend between two materials that will only look better with age, not that we’ll need to wait – it looks great new as well!
