In the words of one of our favorite bloggers, James from Secret Forts: “J. Crew’s spring ’11 collection is a playbook in new classics, old favorites, smart layering, crisp fabrics, textural and tonal mixing.” We couldn’t sum it better. Nautical and workwear inspirations mix together in a collection which is toned down and refined, presented with the sophisticated styling of J.Crew’s top-man Frank Muytjens. As always, denim is featured heavily throughout the looks, given a crumpled treatment for a summer ease.

Mjölk Spring/Summer 2011
An exercise in color theory and the art of design, the Mjölk Spring/Summer 2011 collection draws from the mechanics and history of visual art, focusing on relationships between colors and shapes, and the affect these manipulations have on the viewer. Bold primary colors give way to subtle secondary and tertiary shades of green, burgundy, soft brown and warm grey, allowing magnanimously disjointed looks to come together in chromatic harmony when the collection is viewed as a whole.
In Mjölk’s ongoing commitment to craftsmanship, the collection features hand-finished leather detailing, antique leather buttons, hand-knitted lamb’s wool, Liberty prints, tailored garments in Japanese cotton, and rain macs developed with a family-run company in Boston who has specialized in coats for area fishermen for generations. The spring line also features hand-cobbled Italian shoes, and a full series of leather goods. One of New York City’s only remaining belt-makers hand-crafted this season’s belts using leather also sourced in Manhattan and buckles forged in Rhode Island. Location, palette, and craft converge in one of Mjölk’s most distinctive collections.

Prps Jeans SS11
American denim label Prps take their artisanal denim making to a whole new level for the spring summer 2011 season, more than ever inspired by workwear. We absolutely love that utility jacket and those hickory stripe shorts (above), not to mention the camouflage pieces… Check out the full men’s collection after the jump.
Nudie Jeans Spring/Summer 2011 Denim Shirts
Worn-in workwear with its abrasions and different shades of blue inspires the shirt collection of Nudie Jeans for spring summer 2011. The Swedish denim label wants to pass on the feeling and beautiful patina of worn and washed dungarees to their shirts. The range goes from dry, dark indigo selvage denim to worn and washed out.

Noir Basic Fall Winter 2010
French label Noir Basic produces refined and timeless leatherwear from materials sourced from artisanal tanneries in the heart of Paris. Founded in 2008 by three creatives, the label’s garments are influenced by vintage styles and American basics with a Japanese-like attention to details. Here’s a look at Noir Basic’s fall winter 2010 lookbook entitled “Cold Wave”.

Lanvin x H&M Menswear
Soon to be in stores (23rd November to be exact), the much hyped about Lanvin x H&M capsule collection can already be seen here. The menswear collection, from Lanvin’s men’s designer Lucas Ossendrijver, brings together a wardrobe of updated classics with tuxedos made for daywear and jogging pants adding a sporting twist. Hunting and Collecting Fall Winter 2010
You know how much we love a good lookbook and Brussels-based shop Hunting and Collecting certainly provides one for fall/winter 2010. Featuring a selection of their (and our) favorite labels like Rag and Bone, Libertine Libertine and Opening Ceremony x Levi’s, the lookbook manages to capture the outdoorsy mood of the season although shot entirely on location at the store. Norse Projects x Lavenham Jacket
Denmark’s Norse Projects are teaming up with British originators of the quilted jacket, Lavenham Jackets, to produce 4 select items available from Norse Projects early November. The ever popular silhouette of the Lavenham Jacket received the Scandinavian treatment with functional natures and twists added to the jackets and vest as well as some subtle trim and pocketing details giving each garment that Norse stamp of approval.

Robert Geller at NYFW SS11
Yeah… this one took us some time, but it’s finally here. Surprisingly enough, New York’s fashion week menswear presentations were dull with denim compared to those of Milan and Paris. Why the surprise? Well, Americana is the driving force and theme of many a denim brand these days, so we thought America’s fashion designers will catch up with the trend. That said, we still got some pretty cool denim pieces from the expected denim aficionados like Gant, Rag & Bone and Robert Geller. So without further ado here’s our round up of all denim looks from New York’s spring/summer 2011 fashion week.

Maurizio Donadi
Based in Amsterdam, Levi’s XX is the relatively new premium clothing label of iconic denim brand Levi’s. Sportswear International talked to Maurizio Donadi, head of the Levi’s XX division, about how Levi’s Vintage Clothing is becoming more and more global and about Levi’s XX new sub-division Made & Crafted.
Please tell us the difference between LVC and Made & Crafted.
As a kind of nickname, LVC is workwear and Made & Crafted is church wear. Clean outfits that you wear on a Sunday to be with your family. If LVC is about the rigid and unwashed interpretation of workwear, Made & Crafted is about elegance and innovative casualwear which Levi’s has never done before. The trend was always to look at the history and reproduce and reproduce. Levi’s Made & Crafted has a new twist to it. It’s almost luxury in the arena of jeanswear.
Can you tell us more about LVC and the new Levi’s XX division?
Although LVC was born in 1999 it was never global. It was a much smaller selection of products and was distributed in different ways in Europe, Japan or the US. There was no consistency. There was a desire for that kind of product but it was never fully developed. So in 2009 Levi’s decided to open a new division called XX which is nothing more than a unit that takes care of and develops the top of the pyramid of Levis brands: LVC and Made & Crafted. They are now both developed globally. It’s one range for the entire world – one voice, one language, one religion. Our design team is made up of scientists not fashion designers. We look at fabrics and washes with a microscope. Half of this store represents the biggest selection of made in the U.S. products anywhere in the world. 90% of what we make is made in LA.
