Veja Indígenos Trainers

Veja is a French ecological trainers brand created in Paris in 2004 with the idea of creating trainers that respect both the environment and any worker involved in the project. The trainers are made in Brazil, where the brand works directly with small producers.

The Veja Indigenos collection exhibits neutral, muted color-ways in vegetable tanned suede with a subtle tonal stitching. Keeping with the brand’s ethical agenda, the trainers are made with suede that is tanned without heavy metals or chromium.

La MJC x Lacoste Broadwick Sneakers

This July, the American work wear shoes brand Red Wing Shoes is opening its first Dutch store in Amsterdam, in one of its famous “Nine streets”. Following in Berlin’s footprints this store will exclusively sell leather shoes and accessories.

Red Wing Shoes has been an authority in work wear shoes since 1905. Their leather boots are universally known for their indestructible quality. The brand uses its own leather, and both this raw material and the shoes themselves are still manufactured in the town of Red Wing, on the shores of the Mississippi river. Red Wing made a cross-over to lifestyle a few decades ago and has since become a staple in both the European and Japanese street scenes.

The collection of the store will consist of a wide assortment of Red Wing shoes, complemented by shoe maintenance items, belts, gloves and other accessories. The brands that represent this part of the collection include American Optical, Duluth Pack, Heritage Leather Company, Royal Republiq, Tanner Goods and The Hill-Side.

The store is a joint initiative between Red Wing Shoes and Tenue de Nîmes in Amsterdam.

45rpm X Pantofola d’Oro Mid Sneakers

Japanese (I swear we’re not running a theme) denim and clothing brand 45rpm have teamed up with PDO Gold, the vintage-inspired line of Italy’s eminent sneaker maker Pantofola d’Oro. The result – these fetching leather/hickory denim tennis shoes, also available in a leather/white canvas version. Both models sport suede accents and come in low and high tops.

On a recent visit to Amsterdam I stumbled across the new and beautiful Velour shop located in the 9 streets district. Among other things from the hard-to-resist shop, I got myself a pair of Clarks Desert Boots (in sand), and instantly became a fan of the British Originals.

Slamxhype delivers imagery of the reissue of a lesser known Originals model called The Clarks Ashcott. The sneaker, featuring the brand’s signature crepe sole and suede and leather uppers come in low or high-top version, both making a nice, sporty alternative to the Desert Boot.

For their Autumn/Winter 10 collection Won Hundred found Inspiration in the straight lines and hard shapes of the cubistic art, combined with the soft and natural influences from cubistic collage art. Collection colors range from spice brown to dark duffel bag green. Black, Grey and white are key colors, and this seasons accent colors are a washed out aubergine and a muted jade green.

Small amounts of metal in a cotton yarn make a bomber jacket look worn and creased. Double layered shirts for a collage effect tucked into corduroy trousers make the heritage gentleman style have a modern twist. The tailored suit is back with minimalistic lines both for men and women. Mid calf length classic overcoats makes a statement this season. Oversized cardigans in wool, worn together with deconstructed shirts. All of this styled happily together with Won Hundred’s unisex leather boots.

Besides the main collection Won hundred goes back to its denim roots this season with new models and washes on the jeans. Also the shoe collection has been expanded with a broader range of shoes in leather, nubuck and suede.

Launched by Parisian fashion group Paper Rain, SILENT is a new line directed by Damir Doma. The collection includes jersey and denim in oversized silhouettes and washed leather accessories. But what really caught our eyes are these Astible sneakers from SILENT’s first collection – a mid cut leather shoe with suede detail at the toe cap seam and a heavy vulcanized rubber sole. We love their natural, effortless look for spring slouching. Get them here.

Classic made in U.S.A. footwear and luggage is exceptional as traditional artifacts of the rugged and refined American past. Since 1985, designer Yuki Matsuda has paid homage to the American crafts and traditions by treasure hunting for outstanding examples of footwear and luggage in remote locales spread out across the rolling Appalachians to the high Sierras.

During Yuki’s quests for American rarities, he befriended several footwear, luggage, leather, and blanket artisans whose personalities and skills are more beautiful and pure than their output. Yuketen exists from the lessons and heritage gleaned from these men and women. For the upcoming spring, I especially like these sports chukka shoes now available from Colette.

Part of the brand’s global re-launch, Evisu Jeans has collaborated with cult phenom label Common Projects to create new line of minimal sneakers for Autumn Winter 2010. Following both brands’ common ethos of quality and classic design, the line will consist two styles of leather, vulcanized sneakers, branded as a limited collaboration using Common Projects’ trademark foil heel stamp. This is the first announced collaboration for Evisu with Scott Morrison as the new CEO/Creative Director. Debuting at select premium retailers in Fall 2010.
