A fusion between jeans and chinos, these Denim Reverse trousers by German/Belgian designer Stephan Schneider don’t come cheap ($ 375), but considering the great quality and detail we’d say they’re worth saving our pennies or hammering the piggy bank.

Mr. Schneider is known for designing each piece of fabric used in his collection personally, spending half of his time with the textile and half with the silhouette. He has said “When your textile is strong, you don’t have to invent trousers with three legs”. We totally agree. The label uses its own production facilities in Belgian factories, where pieces are cut by hand and time can be spent on the finest finishing. Available from South Willard.

Launched by Parisian fashion group Paper Rain, SILENT is a new line directed by Damir Doma. The collection includes jersey and denim in oversized silhouettes and washed leather accessories. But what really caught our eyes are these Astible sneakers from SILENT’s first collection – a mid cut leather shoe with suede detail at the toe cap seam and a heavy vulcanized rubber sole. Using a specially developed uneven thread used for warp and weft throughout the Vintage collection, these 13 oz Japanese Selvage denims by Edwin are produced on shuttle weaving machines, the two elements combining to create a feeling of old fabric. The Selvage, named 日の丸 Selvage (Hinomaru Selvage) was designed to reflect the colours of the Japanese National flag. The wash is made to look like the denim is worn out with uneven colours across the denim including the extension & contortion of around the waist that vintage denim provides. The denim is carefully worked by skilled craftsmen to get the desired results… Pretty cool, huh?! Gotta get me a pair of these!

Classic made in U.S.A. footwear and luggage is exceptional as traditional artifacts of the rugged and refined American past. Since 1985, designer Yuki Matsuda has paid homage to the American crafts and traditions by treasure hunting for outstanding examples of footwear and luggage in remote locales spread out across the rolling Appalachians to the high Sierras.

During Yuki’s quests for American rarities, he befriended several footwear, luggage, leather, and blanket artisans whose personalities and skills are more beautiful and pure than their output. Yuketen exists from the lessons and heritage gleaned from these men and women. For the upcoming spring, I especially like these sports chukka shoes now available from Colette.

Nigel Cabourn’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection ‘Burma’ is inspired by the contents of Nigel’s father’s army handbook. He used this as a diary during his time in India and Burma between 1942 and 1945. The photographs his Father J.E.W. Cabourn took on his box brownie camera and the clothing that he wore form the basis of the collection and is a tribute to him and his companions.

One of the stand-out pieces from the master-craftsman’s authentic collection is the ‘Edgar Indian Drill’ holdall. Made from dead stock 1942 British army Indian khaki Drill cotton (an authentic WWII fabric) and premium tan leather trim, this bag has one large internal compartment, it fastens with a heavy duty khaki zip and has both carry handles and a long shoulder strap. Tanner Goods‘ Standard Belt emphasizes classic, utilitarian styling. It is constructed from 9/10 oz. heavyweight English Bridle leather that will age beautifully over time, enhancing the color and character of the leather.
