APRIL77 Fall Winter 2010 Campaign Shots

After a period of uncertain future and rumors of shutdown, French denim and music label APRIL77 is back with a new collection for autumn/winter 2010 and a new website to accompany it. The new season sees APRIL77 refocus on their basic product, denim, with an updated selection. Titled White Runes – Black Flags, the collection featured Washes – raw black denim, used black denim, raw blue – are references to nature, authentic and uncontrollable. Joey and Dictator, the 2 cult jeans of APRIL77, remain in this new collection, which also introduces Ride, a new tapered fit.

Baldwin Denim Fall/Winter 2010

James from Secret Forts reports on the new and evolved-beyond-denim fall/winter collection of Kansas City based Baldwin: “Shirting in classic fabrics like chambray, gingham and oxford cloth, a blazer, pants with the same perfect fit as the denim range, accessories (ties, a KC fitted cap and a waxed canvas weekender in which to pack it all up), and a shoe in collaboration with Esquivel of California. Each of the pieces is as straight forward and wearable as the denim and all easily and cohesively work together. It’s well made, subtly detailed, sharp yet hard-wearing, clean, classic and modern.”

Libertine-Libertine x Tenue de Nîmes Denim shirt Detail

Two Denimaniac favorites, Danish fashion label Libertine-Libertine and Dutch denim store Tenue de Nîmes have come together to produce a collaborative limited edition denim shirt based on the Libertine-Libertine Hobo. The design feature details like the check-lined collar and cuffs and the subtle white Tenue de Nîmes cross embroidery on the right front of each garment. Available through Tenue de Nîmes for €120,-.

Tender's Type 132 Jeans (left) and new fit, Type 130

One of the most exciting and interesting projects in current jeans-making is led by UK-based William Kroll and his label Tender Co. William is no stranger to the art of denim. As a former designer for Evisu’s Heritage and Deluxe lines, he knows a thing or two about premium jeans, but with his own label he took things to a completely new level. The extent of research, craftsmanship and detailing put into each Tender product is undoubtedly overwhelming, providing the perfect foundation for developing maximum character and personal ageing potential.

Spring/Summer 2011 sees the expansion of Tender’s tight collection with the introduction of a new denim fit, Type 130, a slim/straight dip-dyed indigo jeans as well as new heavy-weight hand-cut leather belts, a leather satchel, a dip-dyed work denim vest (right) and special collaboration with Denimaniac favorites The Hill-Side. Other standard Tender products are also featured and given a new lease of life for the new collection.

Han Kjøbenhavn Fall/Winter 2010

Han Kjøbenhavn’s apparel collection for FW10 continues to withdraw inspiration from the 50′s and vintage clothing. The result is a mix of classic styles and functional outerwear such as the 50′s US bomber jacket with all over indigo lining. The Danish brand have added fine lamb’s wool cardigans and indigo shirts with classic four hole buttons – all hand sewn. A new denim fit is also introduced – a 50′s tapered classic jeans in 3 washes from medium indigo to heavy repaired, all 13.5 oz selvedge qualities are faded and inspired by 1947 Japanese denim archives. Each pair of jeans  features a heavy military cotton/twill lining. The new apparel collection will be joined by the launch of HK’s new frame ED (last image below). Check it out in stores next month.

Raven Denim Fall 2010

Raven Denim, a premium denim line presents a second foray into menswear with its fall 2010 lookbook. The Raven spirit – inspired by a raven’s inky blue/black plumage – focuses on a range of masculine denim fits with impeccable tailoring and cut. Premium fabrics, imported from Italy and Japan, are designed, hand-crafted and produced in Los Angeles. The resulting jeans are pared down; clean silhouettes, as well as vintage, lived-in looks.

The Raven Denim collection includes riffs on the all-American 5 pocket jean: Vic Slim Straight, Sid Slim Skinny, Leo Classic Boot and Joe Relaxed Fit, along with a classic trouser cut, Max. Functional denim elements become design details. These include oxidized hardware, plaid pocket linings as well as double and triple stitched seams that highlight tailoring. Having tested two of the models myself I can highly recommend Raven’s denim, especially for the grown up rocker types among you who would like a hassle-free pair of jeans.

Cheap Monday Autumn/winter 2010

Sweden’s skinny jeans champion, Cheap Monday, present their autumn/winter, somewhat shady, catalogue: “The AW 2010 collection gives an apocalyptic impression but with a sense of hope for the future; holes are mended and scarring is used as decoration. Razorblade slashes are repaired on both denim and jersey; patches are used together with spray paint and coatings in rough detailing. A rawness and nomadicity referring to futurism and punk suggests a DIY aesthetic.” Take a look.

REDUX Blue Jeans Carpenter Work Pants

More and more artisanal denim brands are kicking off these days – REDUX Blue Jeans from Italy is the latest to come to our attention, bearing a promising first impression.

Launched by fashion industry veteran Dario Marangon, the new brand is based on Marangon’s passion for men’s denim and the tradition of workwear, and influenced by his well curated archive of rare vintage jeans combined with original dead stock and other garments, accessories, books and research collected over the years.

The idea of the REDUX project arose from the need to perpetuate the unique characteristics of jeans from the material to the manufacture. A limited production of handmade blue jeans, using Okayama mills narrow selvage denim fabric, the special nature of the project lies in the high quality and the artistic integrity of its elements with a commitment to the past. We’ll be sure to add REDUX to our brands-to-follow list – you should as well.

Edwin SS11

Our friends at Edwin Europe kept to their element for the shoot of their SS11 presentation, the latest in the brand’s non-conforming, independent spirited lookbooks. The ‘models’, Edwin guys’ friends and family, were photographed wearing the next spring collection in their natural habitat, allowing for a relaxed and casual lifestyle to come through. The photographs were not retouched, leaving the imperfections of life and dust present – a clear reference to the philosophy behind the brand’s core product – denim. Keeping it real, that’s the way we like it… take a look.
