Agave Denim SS11

I thought long and hard how to describe Agave’s ss11 men’s collection to you. Usually in this case the images provided in the post are self-explanatory, but Agave’s presentation is, how to say, a bit lacking. And it’s ironic, because their garments are quite the opposite – made out of the best materials out there employing sophisticated treatments and washes, finally hand finished to perfection. Agave has a no bustle attitude that reads well into their product look and feel. Design is toned down and you need to take a good look to see the beauty within – you’ll find it in the little details. Trend seekers should look elsewhere…

We can’t help ourselves but jump on the hype bandwagon racing around the Woolrich Woolen Mills fall/winter 2011 collection. With his first collection for WWM, designer Mark McNairy delivers all he had promised since the news of him replacing Daiki Suzuki at the creative helms of the brand broke. The new collection, injected with a heavy dose of preppy, features a healthy selection of printed duffle coats, chinos, pea coats and accessories. We’re loving it.

Brand new KLAY was launched in 2010 by the French Collectif Saint Sauveur, it is definetley not big man clothes, more like for tall individuals. Their modern, raw and authentic silhouettes and denim really caught our eye, all fabricated and hand made in Japan. KLAY’s pieces can be found at shops like Guild (USA), Journal Standard (Japan) and L’ECLAIREUR (Paris).

J.Crew SS11

In the words of one of our favorite bloggers, James from Secret Forts: “J. Crew’s spring ’11 collection is a playbook in new classics, old favorites, smart layering, crisp fabrics, textural and tonal mixing.” We couldn’t sum it better. Nautical and workwear inspirations mix together in a collection which is toned down and refined, presented with the sophisticated styling of J.Crew’s top-man Frank Muytjens. As always, denim is featured heavily throughout the looks, given a crumpled treatment for a summer ease.

Mjölk Spring/Summer 2011

An exercise in color theory and the art of design, the Mjölk Spring/Summer 2011 collection draws from the mechanics and history of visual art, focusing on relationships between colors and shapes, and the affect these manipulations have on the viewer. Bold primary colors give way to subtle secondary and tertiary shades of green, burgundy, soft brown and warm grey, allowing magnanimously disjointed looks to come together in chromatic harmony when the collection is viewed as a whole.

In Mjölk’s ongoing commitment to craftsmanship, the collection features hand-finished leather detailing, antique leather buttons, hand-knitted lamb’s wool, Liberty prints, tailored garments in Japanese cotton, and rain macs developed with a family-run company in Boston who has specialized in coats for area fishermen for generations. The spring line also features hand-cobbled Italian shoes, and a full series of leather goods. One of New York City’s only remaining belt-makers hand-crafted this season’s belts using leather also sourced in Manhattan and buckles forged in Rhode Island. Location, palette, and craft converge in one of Mjölk’s most distinctive collections.

Noir Basic Fall Winter 2010

French label Noir Basic produces refined and timeless leatherwear from materials sourced from artisanal tanneries in the heart of Paris. Founded in 2008 by three creatives, the label’s garments are influenced by vintage styles and American basics with a Japanese-like attention to details. Here’s a look at Noir Basic’s fall winter 2010 lookbook entitled “Cold Wave”.

Lanvin x H&M Menswear

Soon to be in stores (23rd November to be exact), the much hyped about Lanvin x H&M capsule collection can already be seen here. The menswear collection, from Lanvin’s men’s designer Lucas Ossendrijver, brings together a wardrobe of updated classics with tuxedos made for daywear and jogging pants adding a sporting twist. Jack Flynn SS11 Huntington Jacket & Caviller Blazer

Jack Flynn is a new brand based in Amsterdam focusing on men’s tailoring and outerwear with a casual twist. With their first collection just in store for fall 10, the brand’s aesthetic comes from fusing together the traditional pattern making of a skilled tailor and sportswear influences to produce great jackets and outerwear pieces, using nylons, cottons and wool fabrics from Japan and Korea to enhance the collection.

The brand’s next collection for spring 2011 features around 25 pieces and is titled ‘Edge Explorer’. “We draw our inspiration from the influences around us and we are inspired by the need to escape, explore and discover along the fringe areas of land & sea, city & suburbia, at dawn & dusk. The protection from the cool drawing in of night the spray of the sea and the last train home or first bus in the morning during those long summer days.”

Established in Jackson, Wyoming in the swinging 60′s and stood out from the many burgeoning brands, Rocky Mountain Featherbed is a dead honest, traditional outerwear brand with a hint of luxury. In particular, the brand became known for their cold weather vest with leather yoke. As the world began to turn a bit quicker through the 70′s and 80′s Rocky Mountain Featherbed slipped quietly under the radar until 2005 when a Japanese vintage collector demanded we all pay attention to it once again. Since then it has been retracing its steps and getting back in touch with its heritage. Now available from Manchester-based retailer Oi Polloi.

Won Hundred SS11

Won Hundred’s ss11 collection is inspired by a study of long black silhouettes created by different objects that cast a deformed shadow. Like walking in the sun, when your silhouette looks two meter long in the shadow that falls on the pavement. These elongated lines are a red thread throughout the collection.

Another important inspiration is the Danish artist Thorvald Bindesbøll, known for his minimalistic translation from oriental art. His ceramics make a bold and colorful statement, but also a refined almost flowery impression. Danish art and design is known for integrating oriental influences in their work, exactly as how Won hundred has been inspired for this Spring/Summer.

The men’s collection is a clean cut, simple but elegant wardrobe. Key items are the traditional t-shirt and jeans. This in combination with longer Mac-like coats and bomber jackets. Sharp tailored suits with a slight cropped leg, make a statement this spring. Traditional Japanese inspired indigo checks and stripes make the shirt collection come alive in super soft washed out cottons. Also washed down sweat and pilled jersey make the minimalistic look softer and more subtle. Some bold front prints, with a slight ethnic feel make the look complete.
