The gents from Not So Hard Work, the company behind Takuji Suzuki‘s ts(s) were kind enough to share with us a little sneak peek at the label’s lookbook for spring/summer 2011. The model on the left is wearing: an Italian over dyed linen slub 2 button 3 patch pocket piping jacket, Italian over dyed linen slub stand collar shirt jacket, Italian over dyed linen slub drawstring wide pants and an over dyed plain stripe cotton oxford western tie. The model on the right is wearing: an Italian linen*cotton*cashmere herringbone over sized zip front short jacket, over dyed plain stripe cotton oxford B.D. shirt, stone washed high density cotton canvas cropped work pants and an Italian small crest printed cotton stretch neck tie. Three Over One SS11

Heavily inspired by the photography of Irvin Penn, particularly his 1951 series “Small Trades”, where he photographed a wide range of people in a stark studio environment wearing their everyday working attire, Australia’s Three Over One spring/summer 2011 collection continues with designer Jim Thompson celebration of the working man in a range of rugged yet elegant menswear.

The collection consists of unstructured tailoring with cropped fitted jackets and pleated relaxed fitting pants. Denim jeans are in the best Japanese Selvedge qualities with authentic fits and styling. Shirts are in soft washed linens and cottons and knits are influenced by vintage under garments and early athletic wear.

KURO Denim AW10

Japanese denim label KURO (black) was launched only a few months ago and already is making a name for itself among the international buyer crowd. Vintage55 AW10 Coat

Italy’s Vintage55 Fall/Winter 2010 is a collection with an outdoor inspiration. The clothes are made to move in the open air, for hiking or fishing and are realized with strong and durable fabrics. The palette is wide and is enlightened by the autumnal colors such as red, orange and green. Tartan shirts are combined to chino pants and to stonewashed denim. The sweatshirts are made of wool jersey and are characterized by jacquard designs, by needle punches and cornelly embroideries. New for this collection are the quilted sweatshirt and the skeet sweatshirt with multifunctional zipped pockets.

Vintage55 AW10 Shirts

Vintage55′s coats are enriched with technical details such as the fishing jacket and the hunting jacket with tear waistcoats. Must haves are the shawl collar cardigan and the shawl jumper. The wardrobe contains both the outdoor look and the metropolitan casual wear. The protagonist is the tartan check that is declined into the sweatshirts, shirts, jackets and scarves.

EDUN Men's Pre Fall 2010

EDUN, the ethical fashion label founded by Ali Hewson and her husband Bono (U2), introduces the 2010 pre fall capsule collection. The new offering features effortless style, as embodied by Sahara Desert travellers. Highlights include outerwear and a sharp single-breasted blazer in hemp, teamed with relaxed fit denim and pants. Lightweight is key throughout the menswear line, with organic cottons and linens dominating the collection.

Margaret Howell Men's SS11 Presentation, Paris

With a commitment to British manufacturing, traditional production techniques and quality fabrics, Margaret Howell clothes are simple and understated. Recognized for their purity of line, attention to detail and functional approach. This is first time for the label to be featured on DENIMANIAC, but we’ve been eyeing their work for some time now.

Margaret Howell designs wearable clothes with a contemporary look and modern feel, a discreet style for people who do not wish to conform to a certain way of dressing. Her spring/summer 2011 men’s collection, presented in Paris earlier this week is no exception. Here’s a selection of looks.

Haversack SS11

Japan’s Haversack spring/summer 2011 collection is mainly inspired by menswear from the 30-40′s. Easy to wear, functional and well-tailored 40′s casual wear is restructured and given a new balance for an understated, luxurious and modern day wear. As always the collection is divided into three lines: the Haversack label features items deeply reflected by military uniform and hunting wear, accentuating the collection’s masculinity and elegance. In Haversack General Garments the collection takes the essence of French labor wear from the 1900′s and sailing cloths. Finally, the Haversack Attire label is influenced by the 30-40′s upper classes’ resort fashion of Riviera and Palm Beach.

The Danish Libertines

Ranking high on our brands-to-watch list, Denmark’s Libertine-Libertine was established last year by Rasmus Bak, Pernille Schwarz and Munch Ovesen. Offering a choice of reworked and updated basics for men and women, the label has received its fair share of following and press almost immediately upon arrival. Curious to learn more about the collection and its creators, we asked co-founder Rasmus Bak for additional info:

Libertine-Libertine AW10 Parka

Let’s start with a little background. Tell us about the start of the brand, what are the respective roles of the partners and where did you come from (professionally)?

Libertine-Libertine was established in 2009, during the long nights of the Danish spring, and is based on a different set of values and approach to the fashion scene. We wanted to build up a prolific, dynamic & creative platform that could feature a lot different projects ranging from fashion to music & art. It has been quite a ride since the launch in Paris last summer and we are currently represented in selected stores scattered over 12 countries now. We all have our basic back grounds in the fashion industry but in completely different areas. Pernille has been a design executive for some years now & Peter has studied philosophy in the creative industries and worked with various projects. My own back ground lies within music, sales & communications.

What’s in the name?

The name was born during a long stay in Paris after long strolls, hours of conversation & a few glasses of red wine. We all have a special connection to that sinful city and the name captures a lot of the emotions associated with it. We wanted a name that would allow us freedom to pursue whatever project we felt like doing no matter the direction – with other words; no restrictions.

What is it about clothing and fashion that makes it so appealing to you? What are your goals?

Generally, the clothing itself is the outcome of a long process consisting of different elements and inspiration sources that finally leads to a physical product. I still find this very fascinating. Our team is driven by working with expression and culture and the whole idea of creating a product that mirrors a certain culture is just very appealing.

Can you describe your creative process? What inspires you?

The main inspiration for the AW10 collection is drawn from our strong roots in street culture. One of the ambitions was to create a collection that defines an effortless, casual & masculine style on the men’s part whereas the women’s line captures versatility in style and contains both maritime & casual pieces as well as a darker and sexier side.

On a more general note people like Hunter S Thompson, & Kerouac are always hunting our office and their significant lifestyles as hobo and writer are great inspirations for the brand’s soul. Music is a huge part of us as well. It is still all about dynamics and movement for us and I feel this is perfectly mirrored in the collection. It’s casual and wearable with a strong focus on high quality and durable fabrics.

Can you walk us through a bit of the manufacturing process, deciding on the materials, where you source them, fabrication?

We have carefully selected our suppliers via a group of very experienced people and we have a strong focus on fabric quality. We always develop our own art work for the shirts for instance and experiment with different washing techniques for outerwear etc. We produce practically everything in Europe.

Libertine-Libertine AW10 Knits

There has been a shift in attitude towards menswear/workwear in the past few years. What are your views on that?

Most definitely and I like the development. We have been dragged through years of utterly boring Scandinavian simplicity and a very restricted way of handling fashion and its opportunities. I see a complete change and a lot more spirit and excitement these days.

Is there something you think every guy should own in terms of clothing?

Great heavy chinos and twill shirts.

What makes a brand exciting for you?

Of course the design, product and quality are very important factors but I need the emotional values as well – a brand has to represent a movement or direction that appeals directly to me if they want me as a consumer.

Finally, what’s next for Libertine-Libertine?

We have some amazing projects in the pipeline for the coming year. First of all we have done a very nice co-lab with Tenue De Nimes in Amsterdam which will be released the coming July and for the SS11 season we will be releasing the debut album of a greatartist called Pantherman together with Danish AiAiAi, who is one of the world’s best companies when it comes to headphones. Pantherman has made a truly fantastic record in family with the likes of Boards of Canada & Aphex Twin and we approached the format a bit differently. I am very excited to get it out there. It will be a grand year.

Tenue de Nîmes blog refers us to the K-1 chino collection by Dockers: “The second in the Dockers K-1 – Made in San Francisco – series pays homage to the US soldiers serving in the South Pacific, its islands and the Far East during WWII. This selvage chino is a regular straight cut fit in a Cramerton Heavy Twill finish and the last in the brands limited edition range. It is significant in its design detailing; one back button pocket, strengthened belt loops – for added protection when under fire, zinc bronze metal button fly fastening and heavy duty plain plastic button flies.” Read more here.

On a recent visit to Amsterdam I stumbled across the new and beautiful Velour shop located in the 9 streets district. Among other things from the hard-to-resist shop, I got myself a pair of Clarks Desert Boots (in sand), and instantly became a fan of the British Originals.

Slamxhype delivers imagery of the reissue of a lesser known Originals model called The Clarks Ashcott. The sneaker, featuring the brand’s signature crepe sole and suede and leather uppers come in low or high-top version, both making a nice, sporty alternative to the Desert Boot.

Diesel’s Streetwear label, 55DSL men’s collection for this summer is clean and simple with bright colors and sporty silhouettes. It’s an easy look with a bold, graphic personality and the use of natural cottons makes it cool with an elegant twist.

Shirts have a new lease of life thanks to acute attention to detail and a focus on fit. Cool cardigans come in vibrant summer colors with sporty pops, bold graphics and monochromatic dip-dyed treatments. Autumn’s colour-blocking is back in subtle shades, while metallic materials take over the “5 seasons Jacket.”

Pants are also taking a classic turn. A varied mix of chinos, both sporty and classic, as well as fresh lightweight cottons, classic twills and a military canvas all reaffirm a push to a more natural look. Jeans come in dark and light stonewashed varieties, as well as pastel-hued stonewashes.

Conceived in 1999 from a fusion of the ideas of two French graffiti artists, Hixsept is a label “constantly trying to mix art, graphic design and clothing. The artistic environment created around Hixsept makes it a brand with attitude, a graphical advocate through urban art.”

The label’s ss10 collection, based on the notion of drifting, features a graphical interpretation of workwear and naval influences. “This collection was conceived as a free form of creation, radically blue, floating from the pale to the indigo, navigating from raw material to a sophisticated end product. It is drawn from visual references and words related to water and notions of space”. Here’s a ‘flip-through’ video of the season’s catalogue.
