Red Collar Project S/S 2010 Lookbook

With a title as compelling as ‘Great expectations‘, new Swedish label Red Collar Project‘s spring-summer 2010 had to deliver. And they did. Taking inspiration from the same titled Charles Dickens novel, RCP’s collection tells the story of rags to riches, and what’s in between. Similar to the life of Dickens main character, Mr. Pip, RCP’s hero embarks on a journey between slacker to gentlemen, only this time he gets the benefits of both worlds in what can be described best as ‘casual elegance’.

The colour scale goes from dusty neutrals such as off-white, grey mélange, khaki and black, to blues. Plus deeper tones such as grass green and lilac. Also important are the accent colours in dusty pastels, including pink, lilac and green juxtaposed with bright tomato red. Checks are important as usual, together with vertical, horizontal and structure stripes. Other important details are dots, fabric mixing, and structures such as cables and waffle-knits. Raw edges give a perfect balance between scruffy and preppy.

This is not the first time that RCP found inspiration in English culture. The concept behind the brand’s name comes from the old English way of identifying a person by ones trade: the blue collar workers and the white collar academics. Red collar is a new category, focusing on the personality and lifestyle rather than a person’s occupation.
